NMSU professor elected as board officer of national online learning organization

Julia Parra, an assistant professor at New Mexico State University’s College of Education, has been elected to the board of the Online Learning Consortium. The OLC is a leading professional organization devoted to advancing the quality of digital learning worldwide.

Parra was elected to the OLC Board of Directors in 2017, and is currently serving as the chair of the Governance Committee. Her term as board secretary began Jan. 1. At NMSU, Parra is the coordinator for the Learning Design & Technology programs in the College of Education’s School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership. She is currently serving as vice chair for Faculty Senate and is a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee for Technology and the NMSU Online Taskforce.

Parra’s areas of specialization include learning design, technology and innovation; intersections of technology, pedagogy and content knowledge; Online/Blended/HyFlex Teaching & Learning; Emerging Technologies; and critical and culturally responsive teaching with technology.

Parra earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction from NMSU, and her doctorate from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology with a specialization in learning technologies.
